What is CHRISTMAS ?
CHRISTMAS is an annual commemoration of the Birth of Jesus Christ who is believed as the Son of God by the people of Christian religion, celebrated generally on December 25 ( or in the evening of December 24, Christmas Eve, in some countries) as a religious and cultural holidays by billions of people around the world. Christ is also celebrated as a secular holiday by many non-Christians, this festival is known as the " Big Day ". Christmas is celebrated across the world by Christians. Specially, the meaning of Christmas comes in the remembrance and celebration of God's Presence in our world through Jesus, God-made flesh. Although the actual date of Christ's birth is unknown, but Christmas has been symbolically celebrated on the 25th of December since the 4th century. Now this festival is famous among the people of other faith also. In many countries it is public holiday. As of 1870 Christmas is observed in the united states as a federal holiday and traditions. Due to its long history and the enormous popularity there are countless customs and traditions associated with Christmas. Some of them are well-known throughout the world. The most popular involve Christmas Tree and Special Decorations and also like; Advent Wreaths, Mistletoe, Representations of Nativity scene and Colorful Lights. Family gatherings and Gift-giving are also an inseparable part of Christmas.
Bible does not mention a specific date for Jesus Birth. Most historians believe he was born in the Spring, hence the description of shepherds herding animals. The date of December 25 for the Feast of the Nativity was set by the Western Christian Church ( Pope Julius i ) by the early to-mid 4th century. The date of December 25 is also close to the date of Winter Solstice which was celebrated in many European cultures. Christmas day is the beginning of Christmastide and Twelve Days of Christmas (also sometimes called Twelvetide) that continues until Epiphany Eve on January 5. It is preceded by Christmas Eve which in some countries is the day of actual Christmas celebration.
Christians across the world express their gratitude to Jesus on this day by different customs and traditions that are spread across the world from the second half of the 19th century. Some of them like; Mass is organised at Church and Prayer meetings are held, Santa Claus is the main attraction of Christmas, especially among the children, its believed that Santa Claus comes and gives Goodies to the children. On this day many people becomes Santa Claus and shower gifts on the people. People enjoy this Occasion a lot. Christmas is a great festival og the year and also known as the "Feast Day Christ". There is a cultural Holiday which Enjoys everyone on that day. All the Houses and Churches are cleaned, white washed and Decorated with lots of Colorful Lights, Candles, Flowers and others decorative things. Christmas is a big festival of joy and happiness. Everyone wishes each other by the Quote of "MERRY CHRISTMAS" and go to the other's houses to exchange Wishes and Gifts. People believe that Jesus Christ was sent to the Earth to Save "Mankind".
